The transfer window may have only officially opened on Monday, but Tottenham Hotspur have already been busy in the market this summer.

The Lilywhites have already confirmed the signings of defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, following their departures from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.

Having narrowly avoided relegation to The Championship on the final day of the Premier League season, Roberto De Zerbi will be keen to see his side improve next season and challenge once again for European qualification.

With that in mind, it appears that the north London outfit are eyeing a move to sign a talented midfielder.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are set for talks with Newcastle United over a move to sign midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Romano claims that Spurs – who are also hopeful of completing a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke – have identified Tonali as an ideal candidate to bolster their midfield.

Tonali, 26, joined the Magpies from Italian outfit AC Milan in the summer of 2023 and has now played more than 100 times for the North East club.

Last term the central midfielder featured 53 times across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s team, missing just three of their 38 Premier League games.

Romano also claims that Tonali himself is keen on the idea of a move to Tottenham, with the journalist denying reports suggesting that Tonali had been hoping to use interest from Spurs to open the door to a move elsewhere.

The Italy international’s current contract in London is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears that the midfielder could be on his way out of St. James’ Park during this summer’s window.
