Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to make Colombia international defender Davinson Sanchez their first summer signing, according to the Independent.

The Premier League side, who comfortably defeated newly promoted Newcastle United 2-0 on Sunday in their opening 2017-18 top-flight fixture, have been linked with luring the highly-rated Ajax defender to Wembley Stadium before the close of this month’s transfer window.

The 21-year-old, who has two senior international caps for his country, has already featured twice for the Eredivisie outfit this season, scoring against French side OGC Nice in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.

Sanchez, who only joined Ajax from Atletico Nacional last June on a five-year contract, scored six goals and provided two assists in 46 appearances in all competitions last season, as the Dutch outfit lost out to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final back in May this year.

Ajax’s Davinson Sanchez and Schalke 04’s Guido Burgstaller in action.

Crowned Ajax’s Player of the Year last term, the Colombian is a versatile player who can operate as a centre-half or at right-back.

The report suggests Spurs are set to pay the Dutch club £28m for the player’s services, with £14m worth of add-ons, meaning Sanchez will become the club’s record signing, surpassing the £30m milestone set by Moussa Sissoko (2016) and Erik Lamela (2013) respectively.
