Tottenham’s reported pursuit of Belgium international Michy Batshuayi could be in major doubt with recent news speculating he is set to sign a new contract at Marseille.

The Premier League club, who drew 1-1 with Everton at the weekend to stay in fourth spot, are long-term admirers of the Ligue 1 star striker and were hopeful of thrashing out a January deal for the highly-rated forward.

The 22-year-old, who has two international caps for his country, has scored 11 league goals in 19 appearances for Marseille so far this season.

However Batshuayi, who arrived at the Stade Velodrome from Standard Liege back in August 2014, is poised to sign an agreement to keep him at the French outfit until the summer of 2010.

This is likely to drive the striker’s transfer valuation past the £30m mark if Spurs want to recruit their top target this month or at the end of the current campaign.
