Arsenal’s Premier League title bid was dealt another devastating blow on Saturday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa.

The Gunners had put themselves into a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, but Youri Tielemans pulled one back for the visitors before Ollie Watkins levelled things up.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain second in the Premier League table but now sit six points behind runaway leaders Liverpool, who also have a game-in-hand over their title challengers.

The Spaniard will be desperate to see his side return to winning ways when they face Croatian size Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday, before crucial matches against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and Wolves in the Premier League.

Off the pitch, though, it appears that the Gunners have been dealt a different kind of blow.

According to TBR Football, Arsenal target Jamal Musiala is close to signing a new contract with current club Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has attracted interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City – the latter of whom have scouted the player of late – but the report claims that he is now prepared to commit his long-term future to the Bavarian outfit.

Bayern are also working to agree a new contract with full-back Alphonso Davies, and the report suggests that both players are now prepared to put pen-to-paper.

It is claimed that City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all made contract with the German’s representatives last year after talks over a new deal with Bayern had stalled.

Musiala joined Bayern from Chelsea’s youth academy in 2019 and has since established himself as a regular not only for the Bundesliga giants, but also for the German national side.

In total he has scored 57 goals and registered 37 assists in 187 matches across all competitions.

Musiala’s current contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire at the end of next season.
