Chelsea went into Tuesday night’s contest against Leicester City with their season on a knife-edge, fortunately they were not wounded by Brendan Rodgers’ side again.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten by a Youri Tielemans wonder goal at Wembley as City went on to win their first ever FA Cup at Wembley.

It was made even worse when The Blues saw a last minute Ben Chilwell equaliser be ruled out by VAR, prompting delirious celebrations from Leicester fans and even Rodgers himself.

In that very same week, the West Londoners also failed to assure their top four place by losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal, and a season filled with such excitement and optimism looked to be collapsing terrifyingly around them.

Fortunately for the Blues, they were on the winning side against the Foxes on Tuesday night, overcoming City 2-1 in an impressive and dominant performance.

Victory at Villa Park will assure a third place finish for Tuchel’s side, relieving some pressure ahead of their Champions League final against Manchester City in Porto.

Chelsea’s defence has been key since Tuchel’s arrival, but according to German sports outlet Abendzeitung, the Blues are keen on bringing Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule to Stamford Bridge.

Sule has 29 caps for Germany

It is believed Tuchel has always been a fan of the hulking central defender who stands at a titanic 6ft 4inches.

According to reports from Germany, Bayern Munich could be willing to part with the 25-year-old defender who has made 20 appearances this season.

Tuchel is expected to be supported in what will be his first transfer window as Chelsea manager, and with Thiago Silva’s one year contract set to expire, Sule could be a solid solution should the Brazilian depart Stamford Bridge.

Sule’s international compatriot and Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger also has one year left on his contract and he almost left Stamford Bridge in both the January and summer transfer window.

While the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager will be given money to spend, the Blues squad is still bursting at the seams and departures are to be expected.
