Man City were all set to enter a new European era under Pep Guardiola as they planned to get their Champions League group stage campaign kick-started against Borussia Mochengladbach at The Etihad on Tuesday night, however, it was not to be.

A huge thunderstorm in the build up to kick off meant that the pitch was unsuitable, with Greater Manchester having a reported 32.4mm of rain fall in one hour.

In a club statement, the Sky Blues announced that the game had been postponed after flooding in and around the stadium caused safety and security concerns, before confirming that the fixture has been rescheduled for Wednesday night.

The club took to Twitter to show disgruntled fans just how bad the pitch at The Etihad had got during the storm, whilst fans released videos of the thunder and lighting above their ground.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to get going against the Bundesliga outfit, The Citizens’ media team remained light-hearted, poking fun at the easiest of targets, the British summer.

Having made the trip all the way from Germany, the BMG fans, who will more than likely all have to phone their offices tomorrow having come down with a freak bug, remained defiant inside the ground after everyone else had left.

Whilst the DJ in Manchester kept them entertained with some canny song choices.
