Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Athletic Bilbao in their final pre-season game before the start of the Premier League season.

The Red Devils welcomed their Spanish opponents to Old Trafford on Sunday but found themselves behind in the first half courtesy of Nico Williams’ opener.

Erik ten Hag’s side trailed for more than an hour before youngster Facundo Pellistri levelled things up in added time.

United have been busy so far this summer, both on and off the pitch, with Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund having joined the club.

Anthony Elanga and Alex Telles are among those to have departed ld Trafford, but it appears that two more stars could soon be on their way out.

According to Fabrizio Romano, midfielders Fred and Donny van de Beek are edging closer to completing moves away from Manchester.

Romano claims that the Manchester outfit expect the proposed sale of Brazilian Fred to progress in the coming week, with a source ‘guaranteeing’ that the 30-year-old will be sold during the current transfer window.

Fred is expected to leave Manchester United this summer

Fred joined United from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2018 and has since made 213 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

Last term the midfielder played 56 times – more than any other outfield player at the club – but it appears almost certain that he will depart Old Trafford in the near future.

Van de Beek, meanwhile, has endured a frustrating time in Manchester since joining from Ajax in 2020.

The Dutchman has struggled to maintain a regular starting spot since arriving in England and has made just 60 appearances across all competitions.

Romano suggests that the Netherlands international is could be on his way to Spain, with United set to continue talks with Real Sociedad over a potential move for the 26-year-old.
