Aston Villa want Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede to fill the void left by Christian Benteke.

Following the Belgian’s £32.5m move to Liverpool earlier this week, Tim Sherwood’s Villans have reportedly tabled a £6m bid for the Rovers talisman as manager Tim Sherwood moves for his ideal replacement at Villa Park.

Gestede, who represents Benin at international level, scored an impressive 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for the Championship outfit last season.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer is under intense pressure to keep hold of his star strikers Gestede and Jordan Rhodes at Ewood Park this summer, with partner Rhodes the subject of a Championship record bid of £12m from Middlesbrough earlier this week.

However; Aston Villa are not the only potential suitors for Gestede’s services, with Premier League rivals Norwich City, Watford and Crystal Palace also monitoring the former Cardiff City forward.
