West Bromwich Albion have failed in their attempt to sign Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark.

The Baggies have reportedly had a £2m offer for the centre-half rejected by their Midland rivals Villa on Friday.

The 25-year-old, who has been at Villa Park since joining the club’s academy at 11-years-old, has scored eight goals in 136 appearances for the Villans since making his debut back in August 2009.

Following the arrival of former Manchester City defender Micah Richards earlier this summer, Clark could be pushed out of manager Tim Sherwood’s first-team plans next season, with West Brom boss Tony Pulis desperate to capitalise as he seeks defensive reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.
