Steve Bruce is ready to sacrifice Jack Grealish in order to get Jordan Rhodes to Villa Park.
According to a report in The Mirror Villa have thrown the midfielder into negotiations as Bruce pulls out all the stops to find the firepower needed for his promotion bid.
Grealish has had a controversial career off the park but has been playing with renewed purpose since Bruce took over.
Preparing for the loss of the midfielder Villa have brought in Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane and Bikir Bjarnason over the last ten days.
Villa owner Dr Tony Xia is wary of falling foul of Financial Fair Play and is keen to include Grealish in any offer for Rhodes.
Since being relegated Villa have spent extensively but Rhodes plus cash for Grealish would reverse the balance with the club also hopeful of offloading Ross McCormack and recouping some of the £12m spent on the striker before the transfer window closes.
