October was a largely successful month for Southampton who, despite a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea and a harsh loss at Inter Milan, maintained their positive run of form under Claude Puel.

One highlight for Saints fans was finally getting to see their record signing, Sofiane Boufal, in action since his summer move from Lille.

The winger, who cost Puel £16m to bring to the South Coast, was rumoured to make his debut in the 3-1 win over Burnley at St. Mary’s, but had to wait until the Europa League clash with Inter Milan at the San Siro – where he came off the bench.

His first start came later in the month, in an EFL Cup tie with struggling Sunderland, where he well and truly announced his arrival in English football.

With both sides putting out weaker sides, the game was a drab one with only one shot on target in the first half. However, into the second half and the Morocco international decided that enough was enough and pulled out a sensational strike to take Saints to the quarter finals.

Both Charlie Austin and Nathan Redmond grabbed goals for Puel’s side in the month, but the club have made it pretty clear who is taking the gong for Goal of the Month…
