Away from Europe, there were also 2018 World Cup qualifiers being played in Asia, where Australia were held to a 1-1 draw against Japan in Group B.

Despite the underwhelming outcome, there was a spectacular save from Socceroos star Mathew Ryan – one that arguably, depending on who you ask, is right up there with Joe Hart’s spectacular stop to deny Slovenia’s Jasmin Kurtic opening the scoring last night.

The 24-year-old, who plays for La Liga outfit Valencia, did magnificently well to push round Yu Kobayashi’s goal-bound header for a corner with the scores level at 1-1.

Australia were thankful to Ryan’s super stop as his remarkable reflexes denied Japan an eventual winner, with Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak scoring from the penalty spot early on in the second period to cancel out Genki Haraguchi’s fifth-minute opener.

Have a look at Englishman Hart’s heroics against Slovenia here and decide for yourself which save was better!
