As the Hornets stepped in to cruise control for the rest of the season, their captain fantastic rediscovered his goalscoring mojo to claim Shoot’s Player of the Month award for May.

In the same month where it was announced that Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores would leave the club at the end of the campaign, the Hornets ended the year with two defeats and a draw.

Deeney found the net twice though during May – after a disappointing start to the month, which saw Watford beaten comfortably 2-0 away at Liverpool, Flores’ men were beaten just three days later, this time away at Norwich in a 4-2 defeat.

The 27-year-old found the net that evening, as well as assisting one for his strike partner Odion Ighalo.

Watford ended the season with a 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland – Deeney once more found the target, as he brought his final goal tally for the season to 13 .
