Tony Pulis’ West Brom have seized the initiative in the chase for River Plate forward Lucas Alario, according to Argentine newspaper Olé (via Sport Witness).

The 24-year-old has enjoyed another stellar season for the Argentine giants this term, netting 11 goals in just 24 games in all competitions to help the club to third place in the table, four points behind leaders Boca Juniors but with a game in hand.

This adds to the 11 goals he netted last term for the team to underline his credentials in front of goal, and it’s form which has alerted several clubs around Europe, including Tottenham, Lazio, and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, it has been reported that Pulis’ Baggies are the side leading the chase in the quest to land the striking sensation, with the Midlands club reportedly ‘making moves’ to land the Argentina international this summer.

Pulis’ men have struggled in front of goal for much of this season, netting just 42 times in their 37 Premier League games, and their top-scorer is currently striker Salomon Rondon with just eight (his campaign included an 18-game goal drought between December and May as well).

Thus, it’s clear that reinforcements are needed in the attacking department if West Brom are to move up to the next level, and with a prolific record over the past few seasons, Alario could be the man to lead the Baggies over the coming years.
