West Ham United are reportedly set to join Liverpool in the chase to land French forward Grégoire Defrel next month, according to the Express.

The Premier League side, who currently hover just one point above the English top-flight’s relegation zone following their 2-2 draw against The Reds at the weekend, have been linked with a move for the in-form Sassuolo forward ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who has never represented his country in any age group, has impressively scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit so far this season.

Defrel, who started his senior career at Italian rivals Parma, is wanted by both Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic after the New Year in order to bolster their attacking options respectively.

The striker, who is under contract at Sassuolo until the summer of 2020, could cost around £20m.
