West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is targeting an improvement in the  ‘quality’ of his side as opposed to buying just ‘squad players’ in the summer transfer window, reports The Daily Mail.

The Hammers boss has overseen a frustrating campaign at the London Stadium, a campaign that has seen them win just seven times in the Premier League at their new ground, and one that will see them finish no higher than ninth in the table.

It has been a far cry away from the West Ham side that secured a stunning seventh place finish in last season’s top-flight, and already attentions are turning to who the East London outfit may sign in the summer to get back near that level next term.

They have been linked with moves for Pablo Zabaleta, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Chris Wood in recent times, but 48-year-old Bilic has identified his key target in the upcoming window, adding quality.

He said in his pre-Burnley press conference (via The Daily Mail): ‘We don’t need squad players.

‘We would like to improve the quality in certain positions but I don’t want to talk about names now.

‘But hopefully we are going to be successful in finishing those transfers.’

This will surely come as welcome news for West Ham fans who have seen their side struggle at times this term, and almost become embroiled in a relegation dog-fight before a key win over Swansea on April 8, before draws against Everton, Sunderland, and Stoke moved them away from danger.

Nonetheless, they will be hoping for better next term, and the pressure will be on manager Bilic to get it right in the transfer window this time round after what was widely seen as a failure last summer.
