West Ham United finally completed their first major signing of the summer over the weekend, as former Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma joined the Hammers in a deal worth around £31.5 million.

The 26-year-old was the Hammers’ second summer signing, after the arrival of fellow Frenchman Alphonse Areola, who joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, it appears that Zouma may not be the final arrival at the London Stadium this summer, as an international midfielder appears to be on his way.

According to The Guardian, David Moyes’ side are close to signing CSKA Moscow’s Nikola Vlasic.

The report states that Vlasic, a 26-time Croatia international, will be signed in an effort to bolster the club’s attacking options ahead of a busy season which will include participation in the Europa League.

Vlasic was part of Croatia’s squad at Euro 2020.

The Hammers had been strongly linked with Jesse Lingard, who shone while on loan with the club at the back end of last season.

However, West Ham and Manchester United have been unable to agree a deal, and a move never materialised.

The Irons now perceive the £25 million signing of Vlasic as a better alternative to Lingard, who could have ended up costing as much as £35 million.

Vlasic, 23, endured a difficult spell at Everton two years ago, but has since impressed for CSKA and has also attracted interest from Serie A champions Inter Milan.
