Manchester City are back in action on Friday when they face Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

City defeated Huddersfield Town 5-0 at The Etihad in the previous round, and beat Newcastle United 3-2 in their last Premier League outing.

Kevin De Bruyne registered a goal and assist on his league return to help City to a fine comeback victory at St. James’ Park, and the Belgian could start the match against Spurs on Friday evening.

In the meantime, it appears that one of City’s other midfielders could be set to leave the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are in talks with City over a proposed move for Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips could leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes

The journalist claims that the Hammers are insistent on signing the Englishman, and further talks are therefore scheduled for this week.

Phillips, 28, joined City from Leeds United in 2022 having made more than 230 appearances for the Whites across all competitions.

He has struggled since arriving at The Etihad, though, failing to establish himself as a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side.

In total the England international has made just 31 appearances across all competitions since the start of last season, although he did win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last term.

Phillips has made ten appearances so far this term, but hasn’t started a single Premier League match.

Romano claims that Spanish side Barcelona, who had previously been linked with a move for Phillips, aren’t currently in the running to sign the Englishman.

It appears likely that Phillips could initially depart Manchester on loan, before potentially making his departure permanent in the summer.
