West Ham are set to reignite their interest in Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez in the summer, according to the Mirror.
It is claimed that the Uruguay forward’s buy-out clause will be slashed from £42million to just £22million if the La Liga outfit – who currently occupy one of the three relegation spots – plunge into the second division.
The Hammers tried to sign the 22-year-old during the January transfer window but with Celta adamant that the player would only be sold if the £42million release-clause was triggered, the East London club cooled their interest.
Boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to work with the fellow South American, who he sees as a long-term replacement for the injury-plagued Andy Carroll.

After signing from Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting in the summer of 2017, Gomez had an exceptional first season in Europe – scoring 17 goals in 36 league appearances.
But with Celta dangerously close to the drop, he has had a lesser impact this term and is without a goal since early January.
Gomez was included in the 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup and made two appearances in the tournament for his country who were defeated by champions-elect France in the quarter finals.
