His League Cup start against United was one of just five appearances Jermaine Pennant made that season for the Gunners.

His whole Arsenal career promised so much, but delivered so little.

In six years at Highbury the former England Under-21 international played just 26 times, and was allowed out on loan to Watford and Leeds during his time on the books in North London.

Longer spells at Birmingham, Liverpool, and Stoke have been intertwined with the odd temporary move to Portsmouth and Wolves, as well as a year-long stay in Spain with Real Zaragoza for the 2009/10 season.

Pennant rejected a new contract at Championship side Wigan last year, and currently plays his trade in Singapore with Tampines Rovers.
