What a sensational midfielder Michael Essien was on his day!

The former Ghanaian international moved to Chelsea in 2005 after several impressive displays for Lyon, and went on to make 256 appearances for the Blues over a nine-year period.

Scorer of some unbelievable goals, most notably that stunning long-range strike against Arsenal to preserve their unbeaten home record, Essien suffered a few long-term injuries at Chelsea, and actually went on loan to Real Madrid in 2012 to reunite with Jose Mourinho.

His long association with Chelsea ended in 2014 when he signed for AC Milan, and spent 18 months in Italy before moving to Greek side Panathinaikos in 2015, although was released earlier this year.
