After pledging his future to the club amidst the financial trouble the Romania international made a complete U-turn and decided he wanted to leave. After a loan spell with Italian outfit Spezia, the defender was released by Rangers in 2013.

The 35-year-old then joined Greek side Asteras Tripoli before becoming a free agent this year, and is reportedly now considering retirement.
