When Southampton fans look at their side’s form in 2016, they’ll wish that the Premier League season started on January 1.

A poor run of form in the lead-up to the end of 2015, excluding a 4-0 win against Arsenal at St Mary’s on Boxing Day, saw the Saints move into 2016 placed 12th in the top flight standings.

Since the New Year though, the south coast outfit have been the third best side in the Premier League, behind the two title-challengers, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, which has seen them move up to seventh and back into contention for European football.

Ronald Koeman’s men have won eight games of their 14 matches since the turn of the year, and they will need to find more in their final five fixtures if they are to qualify for Europe.
