Name: Benik Afobe
With the Cherries currently hovering just four points above the Premier League’s drop zone; and with last season’s top goalscorer Callum Wilson ruled out until at least mid-April, AFC Bournemouth will be pinning their hopes upon new signing Benik Afobe’s shoulders to fire them towards survival come May.
The 23-year-old, who is a former England Under-21 international, has already scored three goals in six league games for Eddie Howe’s men since arriving at the south coast outfit back on January 10, 2016.
Afobe, who came through Arsenal’s youth academy, sealed a club-record £10m switch from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers to Bournemouth last month in an attempt to keep the newly promoted English top-flight club afloat during the second-half of the campaign.
And so far; it is certainly working. The hitman bagged three goals in three successive Premier League appearances against Norwich City, Sunderland and Crystal Palace to help Howe’s men pick up seven crucial points from a possible nine on offer.
If Bournemouth are to retain their Premier League status for a second successive spell after these final dozen fixtures, Afobe’s form in front of goal could be the deciding factor between them sinking (relegation) or swimming (survival).
