Name: Diego Costa
Who would have still thought that the defending Premier League champions would be positioned 12th in the standings with only 12 games remaining of the 2015-16 season? Not us.
However it is a harsh reality for Chelsea; who are 14 points adrift of fourth placed Manchester City, if Guus Hiddink’s side really are still dreaming of achieving the near impossible and accomplishing a top four finish come May.
Instead the Blues are likely to focus much of their attention on their respective cup campaigns in the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup this term, in the hope of salvaging some silverware to make up for a thoroughly disappointing domestic league season.
But under interim boss Hiddink; Chelsea are not a team who give up easily as they have gone unbeaten in all nine league games since the Dutchman took over from Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge back in mid-December, with a certain Diego Costa reaping the benefits especially.
The 27-year-old; who bagged just three league goals under Mourinho’s reign at the start of the campaign, now has ten in total in the Premier League this term, with the Spain international finding the back of the net seven times in his last eight outings.
With the entire Blues squad slowly starting to show glimpses of their title-winning form and displays of yesteryear, Costa’s rich vein of form up front will continue to lead Chelsea’s revival during their final dozen league fixtures.
