Why £50 million wouldn’t be enough to buy Ighalo

WOW! One point off the Champions League places at Christmas; that is knock you off your feet exciting. Heart, desire, flashes of quality and a wonderful tactician has seen Watford surprise all. Sunday saw the Yellows tactically astute and bullying the cash-throwing club Liverpool all around the park.

Superb from each and every player, yet I do feel this formation we rely upon is successful because of the hottest Premier League striking partnership. Pinnacle to that combination is the leading scorer in the top four English divisions in 2015, Odion Ighalo, better known as Iggy to his work colleagues.

Odion has had a rise to fame since playing in the English leagues and a rapid development. The religious man puts his faith before his football and remains as humble a gentleman as the day he arrived at the Vic. Some would say a dying breed in the modern world of sidetracked players with their image consciousness and seemingly superficial lifestyles and fast cars.

The striker is priceless, particularly this season. Our reason for consolidation into the top half of the English league. A whopping £50 million offer would not suit our needs, for two reasons.

Firstly, Odion has established a partnership which is now nationally recognised with captain Troy Deeney. A truly special link is what these gentlemen forged during our promotion campaign last season.

Secondly, this player has the knack for finding the net. Clubs throw millions as we all know, at either finding one of these players or finding the next new best thing. United’s Falcao and Martial fitting each of these ideologies.

Were Watford lucky with this acquisition? I think not! You only have to look at the track record of the Pozzo family to see how truly genius these Italian men are. No wonder they are driving Russian number-plated Bentleys around with the business acumen they have.

For any club, Premier League survival is estimated to be worth between £60-100 million, no figure to snigger at. Ighalo is worth that to us, because with his consistency and a disciplined side behind him, we have everything we need for survival. It is just a case of keeping him fit!

Likewise, the ‘Iggy Chop’ is fast becoming the new footballing trend with the youngsters on the playgrounds and the pros alike, a simple gliding motion of footwork which seems to leave players on their feet week after week. Long may this continue!

The Xmas period sees a real test for Watford now after an out of sorts Liverpool performance. Chelsea, Spurs and Man City are all up next. Personally I would be happy with four points from the potential nine on offer.
