Why a new deal for Ander Herrera is more important to Man United than any other this summer

Player of Season so far?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may have something to say about it, but there’s a case for Ander Herrera being Manchester United’s Player of the Season so far.

The Spaniard wasn’t the first choice in that central midfield area at the start of the campaign, with the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba often preferred, but his display at Liverpool back in October paved the way for a fine season which has seen him become the main man in the middle for the Red Devils.

The 27-year-old is excellent defensively, be it in the tackle or his awareness of opposition attacks and movement, and has also had a hand in six goals this term, netting in the League Cup, and laying on three assists in the Premier League, one in the Europa League, and one in the League Cup final.

Clearly, Herrera has been outstanding for United this term, which makes it even more important for the club to tie him down to a new deal in the summer.
