Why these two Manchester United targets are better additions than Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United lost ground on the Premier League’s top four at the weekend after only mustering a 1-1 draw at home to ten-man Bournemouth.

The Red looked set to record a 14th win of the campaign when Marcos Rojo gave them a first half lead, only to see Josh King equalise from the penalty spot five minutes before the break.

Andrew Surman was then sent off just before half time for two yellow cards, while the aftermath of the match was dominated by the antics of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings, both of whom look set to be charged by the Football Association.

Nonetheless, it was more dropped points at home for Jose Mourinho’s United, who are now three points off the top four after Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham all won over the weekend.

Despite two months of the season still remaining, it hasn’t stopped speculation building about who United may look to sign in the summer, although one man that doesn’t look like moving to Old Trafford is Antoine Griezmann.

It looks like an agreement between the Manchester side and Atletico Madrid will be too difficult to complete, so Mourinho looks set to turn his attentions elsewhere, namely to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, and Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.

Both are excellent strikers who have scored plenty of goals this season, so here are THREE reasons why they’d be better additions than Griezmann in the summer…

Lewandowski is more prolific

There’s no doubting Antoine Griezmann’s ability as a forward or his goal-scoring record, but there’s also no doubt that Robert Lewandowski is one of the most prolific and lethal strikers in the world, and has been for several years.

The Polish international scored 103 goals in just 187 games for Borussia Dortmund between 2010 and 2014, including 36 in just 49 matches in 2012/13, and that earned him a move to rivals Bayern Munich, where he has continued his unbelievable form in front of goal in the last three years.

The 28-year-old has netted 97 goals in just 134 matches for Bayern, including a staggering 42 in 51 games last term to help Pep Guardiola’s side to the league and cup double, as well as the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Clearly, both are incredibly good in front of goal, but Lewandowski is that little bit more prolific, and with his defensive contribution also excellent, he could be exactly what Mourinho is looking for in his strikers.

Mbappe is the future

Mbappe is already a favourite with United fans having bagged a goal at The Etihad.

At just 18 years of age, Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe possesses all the qualities to become one of the best strikers in world football.

The French Under-19 international only made his Ligue 1 debut in December 2015, and has since gone on to play 43 times for the French outfit, netting 16 goals.

15 of those have come this season, and his attacking display against Manchester City in the Champions League a fortnight ago opened the eyes of everyone in England to this special talent.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that Mbappe reminds him of Thierry Henry, so if United can get a deal done for the starlet, they could reap the benefits for both the present and indeed the future, as he looks set to take the world by storm over the coming years.

If he’s half as good as Henry was, United will have a very special player on their books.

Both would seriously improve United

Clearly, both players wouldn’t come cheap, but there’s little doubting that they’d both improve United.

Polish striker Lewandowski is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football, and has scored goals at all levels and every club he has played at, while Mbappe is just 18 and already causing defenders problems in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

And while Lewandowski is strong, aerially dominant, makes intelligent runs and has a great reading of the game, Mbappe possesses frightening speed and trickery, but is also able to hold defenders off with his physicality.

Between the two of them, they have everything you could possibly want from a modern-day forward, so if you were to get both of them in your side, you’d be scoring goals for fun.
