Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho could reportedly be targeting a sensational move for Spanish playmaker Isco this January.

The 24-year-old has 18 months remaining on his current deal with Real Madrid and recent reports suggest senior figures within the club are keen on extending this.

This fits with Madrid’s recent policy of retaining their current assets, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric all signing on the dotted line in the past few months. It’s a sensible move from the reigning European champions, who are banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows along with city rivals Atletico.

However, Isco appears unlikely to agree to the extension amid frustration over limited minutes at the Bernabeu this season. The Spaniard has started just eight of a possible 17 games this term, and is yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

Isco’s sublime cameo in last week’s 2-2 draw at Wembley was a timely reminder to interested clubs in England of what he can do, and is believed to have caught the attention of a certain Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is desperate to ease his side’s problems in the final third, with Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney bang out of form so far this season.

However, Isco’s situation has also attracted interest from a host of other teams. Pochettino’s Tottenham made enquires in the summer and look certain to return given their troubles finding the net in recent months.

With Isco’s long-term future very much up in the air, here are THREE reasons why he should choose United over Tottenham this January.
