Manchester United appear to be closing in on the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach.

The 39-year-old is currently in charge of Portuguese side Sporting CP, but he emerged as the early favourite to replace Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman’s sacking on Monday and the agreement appears to be edging closer.

GiveMeSport claims that United are close to appointing Amorim as their new head coach, and the report also claims that Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri could be his first signing at Old Trafford.

The report claims that United’s fierce rivals Liverpool are also interested in the Algerian left-back, but Amorim could attempt to make him the first signing of his Old Trafford reign.

Ait-Nouri, 23, has been at Wolves since joining from French side Angers in 2020, initially on loan before making the move permanent the following year.

Ait-Nouri is said to be a target for both Manchester United and Liverpool

In total he has played 126 appearances for the Molineux outfit across all competitions, scoring ten goals and providing the same number of assists.

The Algeria international’s contract with Wolves is set to expire at the end of next season, but United could try to lure him away from Molineux before then.

With the player soon entering the final 18 months of his current £33,000-per-week deal, Wolves could be tempted to cash in on the full-back before his value inevitable drops as he nears the expiry of his deal.

Left-back has been something of a problem area for United so far this term, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia yet to make a single appearance due to injury.

Ait-Nouri is also capable of playing slightly further forward as a left wing-back, and his attacking abilities could be beneficial to United.
