England and Scotland will face off for the 113th time on Friday when the two sides meet in a 2018 World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

Gareth Southgate knows that victory over Gordon Strachan’s struggling Scots would all but seal him the permanent managerial role, following a win and a draw from his first two games in charge last month.

The interim boss will be hoping that Manchester City defender John Stones can back up solid displays against Malta and Slovenia with another one at Wembley on Friday as England seek a third win in four group games.

For Scotland, they have struggled in the qualifying campaign so far, and were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Slovakia last time out.

That result left them fifth in Group F with just four points from three matches, but under-pressure boss Strachan will know that victory at Wembley will see them go level on points with Southgate’s England.

The Scotland manager will be hoping that defender Grant Hanley can improve on a shaky performance against Slovakia at Wembley on Friday, and provide the visitors with a foundation on which to go and get a positive result.

So, with these two defenders set to go head-to-head on Friday night, here is how Stones and Hanley compare in the league so far this season…
