Manchester United could still hand a deal to Sweden international legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who lifted the UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup last term, wanted to offer the former FC Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain forward a new one-year contract extension before he suffered a cruciate knee injury towards the back end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The 35-year-old, who earned 116 international caps for his country, scored an impressive 28 goals and provided 10 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils last season.

However Ibrahimovic, who arrived at Old Trafford last July following the expiration of his deal at Ligue 1 giants PSG, could still make an incredible return to Jose Mourinho’s side in the New Year, should be make a full recovery.

United are fully expected to complete and confirm the signing of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton soon, but The Red Devils could look to bring back the prolific Swede in January should they require additional firepower.

The veteran star is currently at the club’s Aon Training Complex after accepting their offer to complete his rehabilitation under their supervision.
