Top 10: Father & Son combinations in football

Football has always had a family element to it, whether it be young fans being brought to their first game by their dads, or a father and his offspring both playing the game at some sort of pro or semi-professional level.

With most top level footballers having careers that end in their 30s, the chances of them turning out alongside their sons are slim, however it does happen. Whilst David Beckham’s own career has come to an end, he got to share a special moment with eldest son Brooklyn, who came on to replace ‘Golden Balls’ and eventually played alongside his dad during the UNICEF Match for Children at Old Trafford on Saturday

Many fathers have also ended up in management, coaching their child as they during their career, and we’ve decided to take a look at ten other pairs of fathers and sons who ended up at the same team.

Sir Alex and Darren Ferguson

Whilst Darren is better known for his success in two spells as manager of Peterborough, he did have a spell at Old Trafford playing for his dad.

Admittedly his chances after coming through the Manchester United Academy were limited, however the younger Ferguson played enough games in the opening months of the 1992-93 season to qualify for a Premier League winners medal at the end of the season.

Ultimately Darren would only make 30 appearances for United in a four-year professional spell at the club, and had better success when joining Wolves in 1994.
