Mourinho confirmed in his press conference ahead of the Hull match on deadline day that winger Ashley Young wouldn’t be leaving Old Trafford in January, which must have come as a surprise to many.

The England international has made just two Premier League starts this term, and has come on as a substitute on just three other occasions.

Add in three games in the Europa League, and one each in the domestic cup competitions, and the 31-year-old is clearly a surplus to requirements at United, yet could certainly still do a job for another mid-table Premier League side.

The likes of Swansea, West Ham, and former club Watford were linked with Young last month, and all three would certainly feel the benefit of having the winger in their squad, such is his experience, versatility, and creative ability in the final third.

Yet, unless he forces his way back into Mourinho’s thinking, he’s going to go the rest of the season with very little gametime at Old Trafford.
