Mauro Icardi has done little to endear himself to Inter Milan fans in recent weeks.

The club’s captain criticised a section of fans in his autobiography, stating that he could have the Ultras ‘killed on the spot’.

Unsurprisingly, this hasn’t gone down well with sections of the Inter faithful, with some of them cheering when the forward missed a penalty against in their 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari last week, and some wanting him stripped of the captaincy.

Although the 23-year-old remains a starter at the San Siro and continues to score goals – he netted a brace in their 2-1 win over Torino on Wednesday – this fall-out could instigate a move away from Italy in January.

Icardi has moved to put the incident behind him, but some fans might not concur, which may put the striker’s future at the club in doubt.

United showed an interest in signing him in the summer and, although he signed a new deal at the San Siro in the summer, Mourinho could use the last few weeks to his advantage and make a move for the 23-year-old.
