Although England have three decent goalkeepers in the squad, Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford can count himself unlucky not to get a senior call-up.

The shot-stopper has been in fine form for David Moyes’ struggling Black Cats this season and, although they are bottom of the Premier League and have conceded 21 goals, that tally could have been significantly higher were it not for Pickford.

The youngster helped inspire Sunderland to their first league win of the season at Bournemouth on Saturday, making several important saves to keep his side in the game.

He is almost certainly England’s future number one goalkeeper, so it would be hugely beneficial for him to experience as much of the senior team environment now, so the step up to being number one is less daunting in the future.
