Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, has backed manager Antonio Conte by allowing him to spend big in the January transfer window, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

As per the report, the former Juventus manager held a meeting with the powers that be at the London club in the week in order to lay out his demands for the window ahead.

The 47-year-old reportedly feels that the squad he is working with is out-dated and no longer capable of finding the form that saw them win the title two years ago.

The Blues marquee signing of the summer was French midfielder, N’Golo Kante from Premier League rivals, Leicester, with the Deadline Day return of defender, David Luiz also grabbing headlines.

Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson is rumoured to be one player that Conte is interested in bringing in as he looks to sure up his back line even more.

The 23-year-old has played every minute of Boro’s season thus far and therefore it would take quite the offer to prise him from Aitor Karanka’s hands at the Riverside.

Have your say! Do you think Conte needs to spend big in January?
