Arsenal and Chelsea could reportedly go head-to-head this summer in their attempts to sign Greece international defender Kostas Manolas, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Premier League duo, who finished second and tenth in the English top-flight standings last term respectively, are both understood to be interested in luring the AS Roma centre-half to the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 25-year-old, who has 23 international caps for his country, scored two goals and provided three assists in 45 appearances for the Serie A outfit last season.

Manolas, who arrived at the Stadio Olimpico back in August 2014 following his €15m switch from Olympiacos, is said to be watched closely by both the Gunners and Blues as managers Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte seek to strengthen their defensive ranks.

The Greece star was also reportedly the subject of a failed £28m bid from fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United only last month.
