Arsenal boss Unai Emery is set to make another move for Mainz defender Jean-Philippe Gbamin this summer, according to the Express.

The Gunners attempted to sign the 23 year-old last summer, but failed to land the defender. It’s now thought Emery will step up his attempt to acquire Gbamin.

Arsenal’s defensive frailties have continued this season, conceding 26 Premier League away goals during this campaign, with only Bournemouth and Fulham leaking more away from home.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.

Midfielder Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona was the North London club’s only signing in the January window, which leaves Emery keen to sign a defender in the summer.

Number one target Gbamin signed for German club Mainz in 2016 from Ligue 1 outfit Lens, and has become a key member of the team.

After rejecting a big from Arsenal last season, the Express have reported that Mainz will be looking for a £40million fee for the Ivorian defender.

The price tag could be a sticking point for Emery as reports suggest he will only have a £45million spending budget in total this summer, but the club will be hoping they can secure Gbamin’s services for a lower fee.
