Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has turned down a loan approach from Paris Saint-Germain, according to German outlet Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Despite captaining the Gunners on more than one occasion this term – including in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Cardiff City – the 30-year-old has not always been in boss Unai Emery’s matchday squads.

Now, following the news that Neymar will be out for 10 weeks with a broken metatarsal, the Ligue 1 champions made reportedly a late swoop for the 2014 World Cup winner.

However, Ozil is thought to have rejected the chance to go to France and play a part in their Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester United in favour of staying at the Emirates.

PSG are looking for a last minute replacement for the injured Neymar.

The playmaker joined the North London side from Real Madrid in 2013 and he has since played 214 times for the club in all competitions.

But, following the arrival of Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona, the number 10 could be pushed further down Emery’s future plans.

Ozil retired from international duty following Germany’s disastrous 2018 World Cup campaign citing ‘racism and disrespect’.
