Arsenal are trying to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to reports.

The 25-year-old is having a decent season-long loan spell at Everton, where he has played 26 Premier League matches.

However, the Toffees may miss out on a permanent deal for the Portugal international with ESPN reporting that the Gunners are set to make their move.

Unai Emery wants reinforcements in the middle of the park with Aaron Ramsey leaving for Juventus and uncertainty over other players’ futures.

Barca want to get Gomes, who’s also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, off their books after he’s failed to become a regular first-team starter since a £29.3million switch from Valencia in 2016.

The playmaker has made 71 appearances for the Catalan club, who it’s thought would be willing to accept £25.9million from any interested club.

Arsenal’s director of football operations Raul Sanllehi was involved in taking Gomes to the Camp Nou as he was then working for Barcelona.

Now it’s claimed he will try to put together a deal to snap up the player for the North London club.
