Arsenal have reportedly been linked with a surprise bid for Olympiakos goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez.

Spanish press have surprisingly suggested that the Premier League club have tabled an offer of £4.3m for the shot stopper, despite already signing Petr Cech from Chelsea earlier this summer.

Jimenez, who is a former Spain Under-21 international, kept 18 clean sheets in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Greek outfit last season.

It is understood that the Gunners are looking to sign a replacement for fellow goalkeeper David Ospina this summer, with the Colombian still being linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium before the close of the transfer window.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already sanctioned the outgoing loans of Wojciech Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez to Roma and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, meaning a late move for goalkeeper Jimenez could materialise.

How sad that it looks like our next “big” signing is a third choice goalkeeper. Amazing but we are slipping behind a lot of teams who have bought really well, West ham included. Wenger’s deluded fantasy that relies purely on cohesion, would be true if we had the players to succeed at that. The ‘invincibles’ had that cohesion better than any other British team ever. This team do not, so Wenger needs to fill two world class players into his ‘cohesion theory’ or our beloved team will be playing for fourth place once again. When Mourinho called Wenger a success at failure’, he was referring to the league and he was probably right. Wenger is flawed. There is no way this team can challenge for the PL and CL. So the mere fact we are looking at a cheap goalkeeper and not two world class players must break the heart of every Gooner in the land.
