Lescott scored the opening goal at St Mary’s.

Despite not appearing in the previous three matches, Joleon Lescott was back at the heart of the Aston Villa defence, and captaining them for the day, as they picked up a 1-1 draw against Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Not only did he make some vital blocks at the back, but he also put the Villans ahead just before the break as his side picked up a vital point on the south coast.

Remi Garde will need more committed performances like this from Lescott and Co if the club are to stay in the Premier League this season.
