After narrowly avoiding the drop last season, Brighton are hoping to finish above the bottom-three again this year and signing young English centre-back Matt Clarke from Portsmouth could help them to achieve that.

The 22-year-old started all 46 league games for the south-coast side last season, and was even given the captain’s armband on numerous occasions throughout his time at Fratton Park.

New Seagulls boss Graham Potter will hope the Ipswich Town academy product can bring the form that saw him selected in the League One Team of the Season last year.
