Cameroon international defender Joel Matip will join Premier League club Liverpool at the end of the current season.

The 24-year-old, who has 27 international caps for his country and featured at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, will leave Bundesliga outfit Schalke this summer upon the expiration of his current deal.

Matip, who has scored four goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for the German side this campaign so far, will arrived at Anfield on a free transfer.

The centre-half, who was originally born in Bockhum, Germany; came through Schalke’s youth set-up and has gone on to make over 240 first-team appearances for the Veltins-Arena outfit.

Matip becomes Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s second signing since arriving at Liverpool back in October 2015, joining Serbia midfielder Marko Grujic at the English top-flight club following his £5.1m switch from Red Star Belgrade last month, although he was immediately loaned back to his former club for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
