Chelsea have been installed as favourites to sign Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani, according to The Sun.

The defending Premier League champions, who visit La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, have been linked with the Paris-Saint Germain forward ahead of the January transfer window following his recent penalty bust-up with world record signing Neymar.

The 30-year-old, who has 94 international caps for his country, has impressively scored nine goals and provided two assists in nine appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 giants so far this season.

Cavani, who arrived at the Parc des Princes back in 2013 from Serie A side Napoli, has netted 139 times in over 200 games for PSG overall.

However, after publicly falling out with fellow forward Neymar over spot-kick duties earlier this month, the club could look to offload the Uruguayan during the New Year market, with PSG eager to balance their books.

The report suggests Antonio Conte’s Blues are the frontrunners for Cavani’s signature, although Premier League rivals Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with the striker’s services.
