Chelsea are reportedly considering a surprise summer swoop for Italy international forward Graziano Pelle, according to the Sun on Sunday.
The Premier League side, who currently sit ninth in the English top-flight standings following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to relegation contenders Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, have identified the Southampton striker as a potential summer transfer target.
The 30-year-old, who has 11 international caps for his country and is expected to feature for Italy at Euro 2016 later this year in France, has scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Saints so far this season.
Pelle, who only has one year remaining on his current deal at St Mary’s Stadium, is thought to be a keen admirer for incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte once he leaves his role as Italy coach after the European Championships.
The report suggests that Chelsea will launch a bid in the region of £8m in their bid to lure the former Feyenoord star to Stamford Bridge.
