Everton are reportedly interested in snapping up free agent Ron Vlaar.

The Premier League outfit, who currently sit ninth in the standings after their opening 12 league games, are exploring the possibility of bringing in the former Aston Villa defender to Goodison Park over the Christmas period.

The 30-year-old; who has earned 33 international caps for Netherlands, including playing in all seven games for Holland at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil last summer, scored twice in 79 English top-flight appearances for Villa since arriving from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord back in 2012.

However the Dutch centre-half has been without a club since departing the Midlands outfit at the end of last season, where he has been battling back from a serious knee injury.

But now fully fit and raring to go; it is understood that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is considering offering Vlaar a deal at Everton over the New Year period as defensive cover for the likes of Phil Jagielka, John Stones and Ramiro Funes Mori until the end of the current campaign.
