Fans react to Man United’s European nightmare

Man United embarked on their first European campaign under the guise of new manager Jose Mourinho on Thursday night with a trip to Rotterdam to face Eredivisie side, Feyenoord, but it didn’t quite go to plan.

The Europa League is a stage that the former Chelsea boss has admitted he would rather not be playing on, however, he is a manager with the attitude of; ‘if it’s there to win, you may as well win it’, as he did with Porto in 2003.

The Red Devils fell to a shock 1-0 defeat on the continent as the Dutch outfit stood firm and held onto the lead they snatched with a controversial Tonny Vilhena goal.

Mourinho made a raft of changes, with Marcos Rojo, Morgan Schneiderlin and Marcus Rashford getting their first starts of the season.

Fans from the red half of Manchester were desperate to see a comfortable win off the back of the loss to the blue half on Saturday, and it’s fair to say they were far from pleased with what they saw…

Many were quick to dig out individuals after the game, with recalled defender Marcos Rojo taking the brunt of the abuse…

Some Red Devils fans even began to turn on their beloved record signing…

And finally, best of all, fans took to the airwaves to call for the end of Mourinho’s reign just five games in, which caused fans from the wider footballing family to poke fun at their Premier League rivals…

    The worst performance ive seen from a utd team for such a long time. I just hope its a one off. All I could see for most of the game from the midfield was square balls and back passes, it reminded me of the ray wilkins era, I felt sorry for Rashford he was just left up front on his own with hardly any forward passes reaching him. Mourinho must pull his finger out and get Utd attacking to the way they once use to otherwise the fans with turn against him very quickly.
