Championship outfit Leeds United look set to retain the services of manager Garry Monk, according to Sky Sports.

The 38-year-old led the Yorkshire side to a seventh place finish in his first season at Elland Road, although would have been disappointed given that his side were well-set for a play-off position, but a poor run of form to end the season saw Fulham leapfrog them into the top six.

And that play-off failure looked set to cost the former Swansea boss his job, as speculation built that he would be sacked by the Leeds hierarchy, before more recent news linked him with the managerial role at recently-relegated Middlesbrough.

However, reports on Tuesday suggest that Monk will indeed remain as Leeds manager, as the club look set to trigger a clause in his contract to tie him down to another 12 months at the helm.

And this news will surely please the Elland Road faithful given the turbulence and instability that has gripped the club in recent years, yet Monk came in and led the side to their best Championship finish since 2011.

And there does appear to be optimism around the Yorkshire club that he is the man to finally return Leeds to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
